DIAH’O’METER : 3.8/7
WHY? After reading The Couple Next Door and A Stranger in The House, this book was a major disappointment. Why try to pull an Agatha Christie? What made her books interesting is that the hook is introduced in the very beginning and I liked that because it cuts straight to the chase. Maybe she wanted to do something different? But I still think her approach wasn’t very well executed. It’s like, okay fine if you want a story with a twisted ending. But you can’t introduce the twist without any hints written in the beginning. I, as a reader, didn’t feel like there was enough build-up to the characters to finally reveal in the end that they shared a past. Unless maybe it was written differently? Like different first-person narratives? But this was written in third person though focusing on the different characters each time but didn’t feel like the readers could get in touch with the characters’ innermost layer to understand why the ending was written as such.
It’s like oh all of a sudden the ending is improvised without any prior introduction.
